Dr. Marcus Emmerich is professor of Education with a focus on inclusion, heterogeneity and diversity. The professorship is assigned to the Tübingen School of Education and to the Institute of Education. At the center of his theoretical and empirical research is the examination of processes of inclusion/exclusion in the educational system and society with special attention to the organizational structure of modern education. One of his focuses is the analysis of the connection between classification and differentiation as modes of operation of educational communication and organization as well as their structure-forming consequences in the context of social differences and inequality relationships. He is currently investigating forms of institutionalized handling of migration in the education system as well as the coupling of educational and social forms of differentiation in practices of inclusion/exclusion in schools.
