Former IfS Staff gather for a Reunion

On Saturday, 8 August, around 50 former IfS staff members came together for a reunion at the Alberstraße Sports Hall. Some travelled from neighbouring countries especially for the occasion, while others made the journey from various parts of Germany, travelling several hundred kilometers to attend.

The participants included former professors, academic staff, research assistants, practitioners who had taught at the IfS, as well as former cleaning staff and members of the technical team. This diverse group reflected the wide range of roles and shared experiences that have shaped life at the IfS over the years.

Following a welcome address by Rainer Willfeld, initiator of the reunion, the relaxed atmosphere provided plenty of opportunities to catch up over coffee and cake, cold drinks and a traditional Swabian buffet. Conversations brought back memories of staff activities, semester breakfasts and IfS events, as well as teaching activities, memorable moments and many personal experiences from their time at the IfS.

A tour of the IfS facilities, including the artistic gymnastics hall and library, offered a further opportunity to revisit familiar places and see what has changed over the years.

Monika Raetz, a member of the organising team, summed up the value of the reunion: “I was able to meet former colleagues again whom I had not seen for between ten and twelve years. And I also had the opportunity to get to know former colleagues whom I had previously only known by name from stories I had heard about them.”

The reunion was therefore not only an opportunity to reminisce, but also to reconnect with former colleagues, renew old friendships and build new connections.
