Interface properties of OSCs

In previous years, organic semiconductors (OSC) have demonstrated their great potential for applications in organic electronic devices. In this context, interfaces are in particular essential since they determine important processes in devices such as the charge carrier injection and/or extraction. Thus, numerous studies of thin films of organic molecular semiconductors on metals have been performed in order to investigate the electronic structure of organic/electrode interfaces. Generally, the observed interactions at organic/inorganic interfaces reach from physisorption to a reaction depending upon both the substrate and the organic molecule under investigation. Interface properties of organic semiconductors include:

Energy level alignment

Charge transfer

Molecular orientation

Main methods:

Photoemission (XPS, UPS) in the lab and at synchrotron radiation sources, x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS)
