Academic Profile

I am Berit Zimmerling and returned to the LUI in March 2022 as research assistant and doctoral candidate. I studied Cultural Anthropology in my master's program at LUI, focusing on emotions and Holocaust commemoration and conducting research on political tours in the context of the Israel-Palestine conflict for my master's thesis. Since October 2023 I am part of the DFG-funded project "From the Era of the Witness to Digital Remembrance". My PhD project "Emotional Remembrance through Virtual Witnessing: Interactions with AI-based representations of Holocaust Survivors" combines digital anthropology, memory culture, and emotion research, and is interested in memory and emotion practices in interactions with AI-based virtual survivor testimonies.
