Field of study

  • Non-traditional stable isotope geochemistry
  • The reduction-oxidation state of ancient atmosphere-ocean system

Research interests

My research investigates the magnitude and stability of atmosphere-ocean oxygenation during the Great Oxidation Event (GOE) and the Neoproterozoic Oxidation Event (NOE). I focus on the sedimentary strata that were separately deposited during the GOE and NOE. By combining petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry and non-traditional stable isotope system (e.g., Mo, Tl), I seek to identify their depositional environments and implications for reconstructing the redox conditions of the ancient ocean-atmosphere system.

Current Projects

  • Developing thallium (Tl) isotope techniques and expanding their application to ultra-low concentration samples
  • Applying the Tl isotope system to investigate short-term oceanic oxygen fluctuations during GOE
