Studying Archaeological Sciences and Paleoanthropology at Tübingen

Tübingen has a long tradition of excellence in archaeological research and training, going back to the 19th century. Today, this small university town on the Neckar has an extensive and diverse range of institutes investigating the human past and training the next generation of archaeologists and paleoanthropologists. The strong commitment to cutting-edge research and student training at Tübingen is reflected in the success of our students and also in our consistently high placement in a number of international rankings for archaeology programs.

The Institute for Archaeological Sciences offers three programs of study, two at the Bachelor level and one at the Masters level.  The Bachelor minors in “Archaeological Sciences” and “Palaeoanthropology” provide students with in-depth training in their respective topics and can be combined with Bachelor majors such as “Prehistory, Early History and Medieval Archaeology,” or others.  Successful completion of these minors provide the necessary training for students to enter the Masters program “Archaeological Science and Human Evolution,” where students can specialize in one of the Institute’s wings.

The Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen

Innovative. Interdisciplinary. International. Since its foundation in 1477, the University of Tübingen incorporates these three guiding principles in both teaching and research. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Germany, and offers an excellent study environment. It was able to assert itself with its institutional strategy in the German federal and state governments’ Excellence Initiative, making it one of Germany’s eleven universities in the top Excellence class. The motto of the university speaks for itself – Attempto! (I dare to)

Tübingen does not have a university – Tübingen is a university: young, creative, open, innovative. With its lovely historical center and attractive location on the river Neckar, Tübingen offers a high quality of living and a high recreational value.
