Cognitive Science in Tübingen

Welcome to the Cognitive Science Center (CSC) at the University of Tübingen!

Dear members of the Cognitive Science Center Tübingen,
dear attendees of the Cognitive Science Colloquium,
dear interested colleagues,

from April 7th to 9th, there will be a PhD symposium "Understanding Context in Cognition" here in Tübingen, being organized by a group of local PhD students and funded by the German Society for Cognitive Science.
The symposium is open to all interested postgraduate students in Cognitive Science and adjacent fields.

Registration deadline is March 15th.
Please share this information with the PhD students in your groups!

We would be very happy if many PhD students from Cognitive Science or adjacent fields take the opportunity and join this event. Further details and contact information can be found on the given homepage.

Goals

This center bundles the diverse expertises in relation to cognitive science at the University of Tübingen, including the subjects of psychology, computer science, linguistics, neurobiology, neuroscience, philosophy and others. The center is an entry point for students, industry partners, and researchers at the University of Tübingen as well as world-wide. Here, you find information about our mission, the teaching program, the research teams involved, as well as about current job and research opportunities.

The CSC mediates between the factulies and has its own internal regulations within the university. Its aim is to coordinate research and the courses of studies in cognitive science.

Cognitive Science studies how we learn, think, pay attention, behave, interact with others, and how we understand our world (to a certain extent). It does so by studying human and other animal behavior on the one hand and by building models and artificial systems, which mimick such behavior, on the other hand. The CSC is thus the link between the artificial and biological sciences, between the humanities and artifcial intelligence, between philosophy and physics, between natural intelligence and machine learning.

Various departments and research centers contribute to the success of Cognitive Science in Tübingen. The Department of Computer Science has established the degreee program in close collaboration with the Department of Psychology. Moreover, several other departments of the universtiy are closely involved in the course of studies and the involved research including the Department of Linguistics, the Department of Philosophy, and the Department of Neurobiology. Moreover, the cognitive science interest extends beyond these departments to the well-known research centers and medical facilities in Tübingen, including the Neuroscience Centers (Werner Reichardt Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (CIN), Hertie Institue for Clinical Brain Research, Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience), the Clinical Facilities, the College of Fellows, the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM), the Max-Planck Research Institutes on Intelligent Systems, Developmental Biology, and Biological Cybernetics, and many others.
