German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development 2026 – New Dates and Title Announced!

The next edition of the German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development will take place from 15 to 19 June 2026 in Belém, Pará, Brazil, hosted by the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) – and will be extended by one additional day!

The title of the 2026 edition has already been announced: “Responsible Science for a Sustainable Future”.

About the Symposium:
The first German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development was held in Tübingen, Germany, in 2003. Since then, the symposium has alternated between the two countries every other year.

Its aim is to provide a platform for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange and dialogue among German and Brazilian researchers in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation connecting innovation and sustainable development.

A special highlight on page 88 features news about the German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development 2024 organized by the Baden-Württemberg Center for Brazil and Latin America (BraLat), emphasizing the importance of international cooperation for a sustainable future.

The 11th edition of the German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development had the motto “Towards a Resilient and Safe Future.” The primary aim of the event, which was held alternately in Brazil and Germany, was to provide a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary exchange. This edition focused particularly on issues of resilience, value creation, food security, and equitable access to water.

The 11th Symposium was held in Germany at the University of Tübingen from March 20 to 23, 2024. The event was organized by the Baden-Württemberg Center for Brazil and Latin America (BraLat), with support from the University of Hohenheim and Leuphana University (Lüneburg).


11th German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development

The 11th edition of the German-Brazilian Symposium for Sustainable Development has the motto "Towards a Resilient and Safe Future". The primary aim of the event, which is held alternately in Brazil and Germany, is to provide a platform for inter- and transdisciplinary exchange. In this edition, the focus is particularly on issues of resiliencevalue creationfood security and equitable access to water.

The 11th Symposium is scheduled to be held in Germany at the University of Tübingen from March 20 to 23, 2024. The event is being organized by the Baden-Württemberg Center for Brazil and Latin America, assisted by the University of Hohenheim and the Leuphana University (Lüneburg).

The program encompasses plenary lectures, thematic sessions, a poster session, and interactive workshops and open debates. The four main topics of the event are:

C: Green Innovation and Circular Economy for Life and Food
