Prof. Dr. Jörn Munzert

Curriculum Vitae

Jörn Munzert is Professor of Sports Science with a focus on exercise science and sports psychology at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. He studied psychology at the Free University Berlin from 1978 until his pre-diploma, and received his diploma from the Technical University Berlin in 1983. He then worked at the latter as a research assistant at the Institute for Human Science in Work and Education until 1989. In 1988 he completed his doctoral degree there. In 1989, he moved to the Institute of Psychology at the German Sport University in Cologne as a research assistant. There he habilitated in 1995 in psychology with a focus on exercise science. Subsequently, he took over the chair at the University of Bielefeld for the research area "Movement and Motor Function", until he took up the professorship for sports science with a focus on sports psychology at the University of Giessen in 1996. In the winter semester of 2000, he moved to his current professorship within the University of Giessen. In addition, Jörn Munzert is part of the DFG-funded International Research Training Group "The Brain in Action" at the Universities of Giessen and Marburg and three Canadian universities, in which he represents the research foci "Action Observation" and "Motor Learning".

Jörn Munzert is a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sportpsychologie in Deutschland (asp), which he chaired from 2003 to 2005. From 2005 to 2009, he was the publishing director of the Journal of Sport Psychology, for which he continues to serve on the advisory board. He is a member of the German Psychological Society (DGPs) as well as the North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA) and the Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology (SCAPPS).
