Become part of the SHM

According to the motto "by students for students", we at SHM BeTaBalance offer a wide range of services. However, these would not be possible without student participation! On this page, we therefore provide information about our student networks.

Do you have an idea that you would like to implement or would you like to become active in one of the networks? Then please send us an email!

Mental Health First Aid

What is MHFA?

MHFA stands for Mental Health First Aid. MHFA first aiders are lay people who have completed a certified MHFA course. MHFAs are not psychotherapists, but students who are committed to the mental health of their fellow human beings. They are a first point of contact.

They can provide support:

  • Listen
  • offer first aid and support
  • Provide information about offers of help and refer people to professional services

You can find an overview of the student MHFA first aiders at the University of Tübingen here.

Do you want to become an MHFA first aider?

Since 2022, students from various degree programmes / student councils at the University of Tübingen have been trained as MHFA first aiders in a two-day MHFA course every semester.

As part of the MHFA course, you will acquire basic knowledge about various mental disorders and crises. After successfully completing the course and passing the exam, you will be fit for practice as a licensed MHFA first aider and part of our network. We meet once or twice a year for a social event and work together to raise awareness of topics relating to mental health. As an MHFA first aider, you will be listed on our homepage as a contact person.

The next MHFA course is planned for summer semester 25 (May or June 2025). Registration starts in summer semester 25 and runs via the student councils.

Network & Social Event

At the beginning of the year, a network meeting is held with all trained MHFA first aiders at the University of Tübingen in the form of a social event. In addition to exchanging ideas, ideas for creating mental health awareness at the University of Tübingen are collected together.

Since SS24, there has been an online platform (via ILIAS) for all trained student MHFA workers at the university, which strengthens the exchange and the network.

Walk & Talk

What is that?

We will go for a walk together in small groups in Tübingen. This will give you the opportunity to chat and make new contacts in a relaxed atmosphere with no obligations.

The Walk&Talk is led confidentially by student hosts. If you want, you can talk to them about anything... but you don't have to. In any case, they will be there to listen to you – both during the Walk&Talk and beyond. Come along and let's get talking while we walk!
