TüFoRCe Café: The role of the university in today's society

The Tübingen Forum on Social Resonances of Societal Crisis (TüFoRCe) was established two years ago to bring together researchers from various disciplines at the
University of Tübingen and representatives of civil society to discuss the challenges and social resonances of current crisis-related developments.
To this end, TüFoRCe focuses on annual themes, and following “Migration in Education and Educational Institutions” and the subsequent “(In)equity in Education and Educational Institutions,” we would now like to orient the annual theme for 2026/27 more fundamentally toward educational institutions.
Specifically, we propose reflecting on the role the university plays in today’s society. This topic emerged from previous discussions and the observation that the originally intended structure of both schools and universities may no longer align with current realities and developments. Added to this are social and global political developments that influence education, academia, and university. We would like to engage in conversation with members of the university community about these topics—and any others that are of importance to you. We would like to exchange experiences and impressions and, consequently, discuss possible concrete ways to shape the theme year.
To this end, an open TüFoRK Café was held on April 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the College of Fellows, located at 27 Rümelinstrasse. The invitation was specifically extended to researchers at all career stages and from all disciplinary backgrounds.
