University of Tübingen receives the FISU Healthy Campus Label - A milestone for a healthy university culture
The University of Tübingen has received an important award at this year's FISU World Conference: the Healthy Campus Label of the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU). This makes the University one of the first German universities to receive the international certificate for promoting wellbeing on campus.
What is FISU Healthy Campus?
FISU Healthy Campus is an internationally recognised programme that aims to improve the well-being of students and staff through targeted evaluation at university campuses. International experts have developed standards to serve as guidelines for universities. These standards take a holistic view of health and encompass physical, mental and social well-being as well as social responsibility and sustainability. In recent years, 133 universities worldwide have already been awarded the label. This year, in addition to the University of Tübingen, eight other German universities have impressively demonstrated how they promote and develop topics such as physical activity, mental health, nutrition, sustainability and social responsibility at their campuses. The awarding of the FISU Healthy Campus Label recognised and honoured the commitment of German universities to a healthy and sustainable university culture. "Audits such as the FISU Healthy Campus help to make the existing offer visible and also serve as a location analysis. Our classification at platinum level, the highest award level, shows that a lot has already been achieved at the University of Tübingen in recent years. This is due to
numerous people and institutions are involved - their coordinated cooperation is of crucial importance!" explains Ingrid Arzberger (Head of University Sports). In the upcoming years, the aim is to build on this and network stakeholders in order to sustainably promote well-being at the University of Tübingen. The Wellbeing@Uni Tübingen project, among others, provided an important impetus for this last year.
About Wellbeing@Uni Tübingen
Wellbeing@UT is a joint project (duration: 2024-2025) of the Competence Centre for Sustainable Development (KuNaH), the Corporate and Student Health Management and the PhD Initiative Sustainability. The aim is to improve the well-being of students and employees at all levels. The ‘Wellbeing@Uni Tübingen’ website was launched in the winter semester 2024/25 to make existing offers visible and raise awareness of the topic.
Inclusion in international Healthy Campus network
The certification also gives the University of Tübingen access to an international university network that offers a wide range of potential. "Promoting well-being on campus is a key way for us to live sustainable development in everyday university life. We are looking forward to new impulses from the international university landscape," reports Juliane Kloos (SGM BeTaBalance project coordinator). The award is a first milestone, but the audit process will continue in the coming year. External audits will now be carried out at regular intervals to check whether the standards have been maintained or even improved. Participation in the certification process was made possible by a joint initiative of the General German University Sports Association (adh) in cooperation with FISU. The project is jointly coordinated at the Tübingen site by Student Health Management and Occupational Health Management.
By awarding the FISU Healthy Campus Label, the University of Tübingen is setting an example in promoting a healthy, sustainable and responsible university culture. It is an important step on the way to a campus that places the well-being of all those involved at the centre.
