Kattaikuttu Sangam in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India

The Kattaikuttu Sangam is a grassroots initiative that supports and promotes Kattaikuttu, traditional village theater of Tamil Nadu. The organization is run by local professional theater actors and targets local actors and musicians. Kattaikuttu Gurukulam is a boarding school for children from rural areas. There, children receive both formal schooling and training in Kattaikuttu.
Interns can deepen their Tamil here, as Tamil is the main language spoken and there are also Tamil classes held at the school that interns can attend. As an intern, you can take on a variety of tasks: Teaching English and helping to build the school curriculum, making costumes, lighting and engineering at the theater, teaching desk-top publishing skills,media marketing and public relations for the Sangam, teaching art, medical support, fundraising.
For a six-month internship, room and board are free; for a shorter internship, there is a cost, but it is rather small, and can be inquired at the contact address.
