Effect-Net (Effect Network in Water Research) is one of the three projects funded by the Wassernetzwerk Baden-Württemberg http://www.wassernetzwerk-bw.de. It is coordinated by the University of Heidelberg. The project will investigate the effects of highly consumed chemicals for lifestyle diseases in aquatic ecosystems. The influence of antidiabetics, artificial sweetener and antidepressants as well as their metabolites and transformation products will be studied in a multi-scale approach from mode of action at the molecular level to effects on microbial communities. In the Animal Physiological Ecology Group, we will investigate biomarkers and influences on early life stages in brown trout and ramshorn snail.
