Workshop: Listening to Black Women: Researching Social Movements in Afro-Latin America
Friday, June 22, 2018, 9–12 am
Keplerstraße 2, Room 1.81
Prof. Dr. April J. Mayes
Pomona College in Claremont, California
For the workshop, participants will read the forthcoming chapter written by the author, “Black Feminist
Formations in the Dominican Republic in the Wake of La Sentencia.” After a discussion of the paper’s findings,
participants will turn their attention to how black feminism can inform field work and intersectionality theory can
serve as a useful conceptual tool to examine social movements among African-descended peoples.
