In the home stretch

Your studies are drawing to a close: the last exam will soon be written, the final thesis submitted - what now?

On this page we have compiled all the important information you need to successfully complete your studies.

The path to graduation

I still need a thesis! How do I get a topic and a supervisor?

Information on the allocation process for Bachelor's theses can be found here. Further information on the planned Bachelor's theses can be found here.

Information on the allocation process for Master's theses can be found here.

I would like to complete my studies shortly - what do I need to consider?

After all your credits have been accounted for, you must close your Credit Point account by completing the form and handing it in at the examination office. Please note that your account must be closed by you and will not be closed automatically when you exmatriculate yourself. Only those who close their credit point account will also be invited to the next graduation ceremony and receive their degree certificate there (see below).

Important: You can no longer earn further credit points once you have closed your account - the Bachelor's thesis must have been corrected, all certificates must have been handed in.

It is possible to close the credit point account after your exmatriculation.

I studying a minor degree and would like to complete my studies shortly - what do I need to consider?

If you are studying a minor in Business Administration or Economics, you must write an e-mail to the examination office stating that you have completed your Bachelor's minor. A certificate of completion of the Bachelor's minor subject is not automatically issued.

E-Mail:

I have more ECTS points than necessary - which courses will be credited?

When you close your credit point account, you can specify which modules in which focus areas should be credited - if you do not specify anything, the examination office will put together the combination with the best possible grade point average for you. If you have any questions about the correct crediting of modules, the team at the Student Advisory Service will be happy to advise you.

Completing your studies

Do I have to exmatriculate myself?

If you would like to remain enrolled until the end of the semester, it is sufficient not to re-register. If you wish to give up your student status earlier due to full-time employment or similar, you must exmatriculate (further information and the form are provided by the Student Office). If you exmatriculate no later than one month after the start of lectures, you will be reimbursed the administrative fee of 70€.

Please note that in addition to exmatriculation, you must also close your credit point account as soon as all your achievements have been accounted for by completing the form and handing it in at the examination office. Important: You can no longer earn credit points once you have closed your account - the Bachelor's thesis must have been corrected, all certificates must have been handed in. Please also note that your account must be closed by you and is not automatically closed when you exmatriculate. Only those who close their credit point account will also be invited to the next graduation ceremony and receive their degree certificate there (see below).

Can I stay enrolled for additional semesters after the completion of my studies?

If you would like to be enrolled beyond the end of the current semester, for example because of an internship, you can always re-register regularly. Important: This is only possible if you have not yet closed your credit point account and have not yet exceeded the maximum number of semesters.

When am I going to receive my final grade report?

The graduation ceremony at the Department of Business and Economics always takes place on the last Friday in June and in November. If you would like to attend as a graduate, please close your Credit Point account at least 4 weeks prior to the graduation ceremony. The examination office invites all students who have closed their Credit Point account in the last six months by letter to the graduation ceremony and prepares the reports. If you are unable to attend the graduation ceremony in person, your certificate will be sent to you after the ceremony. If you need a preliminary certificate, for example for an employment contract, the examination office will be glad to issue it to you as soon as you have closed your account. All graduates of the year, whether present at the graduation ceremony or not, are cordially invited to submit a profile for the respective yearbook that the non-profit "Alumni- und Förderverein WiWi-Netzwerk Tübingen e.V." will publish on behalf of on behalf of the students.

Dates of the next graduation ceremonies

What happens at the graduation ceremony?
The graduation ceremony usually takes place from 5 p.m. and in a festive setting in the "Neue Aula". In addition to the presentation of reports, you can expect speeches by the year patron and the year spokesman, the awarding of prizes, music by the collegium musicum and a subsequent champagne reception in the Wandelhalle, where the yearbook of the final year will also be handed out for the first time.

Get an idea of the final report card and award ceremonies in summer 2019, followed by the List Fest.
Read a report on the former graduation ceremonies here.

Year spokesman wanted!

At each graduation ceremony, one of the graduates will address his or her fellow students with a short 10-15 minute speech as a year spokesperson. If you would like to nominate someone for the role, please feel free to contact us! We are accepting suggestions for upcoming year representatives at alumni@wiwi.uni-tuebingen.de. You are also welcome to nominate yourself if you are interested.

What is the yearbook?

The yearbook is a small book that the non-profit Alumni- und Förderverein WiWi-Netzwerk Tübingen e.V. publishes every semester for the graduation ceremony. In addition to a list of graduates (with first name, last name, degree programme), it contains short half-page profiles of all graduates of the year who submit a profile for it.

The yearbook is produced exclusively for commemorative and networking purposes and, for data protection reasons, is only issued to those who are also part of the yearbook!

More information about the yearbook can be found here.

I would like to pass on something and advise students. How do you do that?

The Mentoring Concept

With linking alumni and students of the School of Business and Economics, we encourage a lively career-supporting exchange. Therefore, mentoring is one-to-one on a voluntary basis. It is up to the mentors and mentees to decide how often and in what form (by phone, Skype, etc.) they want to do the mentoring. The target is a duration of approximately one year, but mentoring can be continued informally beyond that.

Mentors can, within the framework of this voluntary work

  • reflect on one's own career
  • stay in contact with the alma mater through the exchange with students and keep up to date with the current state of research and teaching
  • use mentoring as a recruiting opportunity.
