Lisa Merkel steht seit klein auf in Laufschuhen, da sie schon früh durch ihre sportbegeisterten Eltern mit dem Laufen in Berührung gekommen ist. Da ihr das Laufen viel Spaß gemacht hat, ist sie im Alter von sechs Jahren dem Leichtathletik-Verein TV Iffezheim beigetreten. Nachdem Lisa mehrere Jahre alle möglichen Leichtathletik-Disziplinen gemacht und dreimal den Verein gewechselt hat, ist sie nun Teil der Läufergruppe der LG Region Karlsruhe, durch die sie den Weg zum Leistungssport gefunden hat. Jetzt trainiert Lisa fast täglich für ihren Traum auf internationaler Ebene starten zu dürfen.
Ihr Abitur hat Lisa Merkel im Jahr 2021 erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Das ist auch das Jahr, in dem sie ihren bisher größten sportlichen Erfolg mit dem siebten Platz bei den U20-Europameisterschaften in Tallinn/Estland erzielen konnte.
Da Lisa zum Jahreswechsel 2021/2022 mit gesundheitlichen Problemen zu kämpfen hatte, hat sie sich auf Empfehlung ihres Trainers Christoph Thürkow in die Betreuung der Sportmedizin Tübingen begeben. Da sie so Tübingen auch als (Universitäts-)Stadt besser kennenlernen konnte und es ihr hier sehr gut gefallen hat, ist ein Studium in Tübingen Ziel für sie gewesen.
Mit ihrem Umzug nach Tübingen beginnt Lisa nun ihr Training in der Läufergruppe um Bundestrainerin Isabelle Baumann. Ihr langjähriger Trainer Christoph Thürkow wird sie trotz des Wohnortwechsels aber weiterhin mitbetreuen.
