Historic Reading Room (Historischer Lesesaal)

The Historic Reading Room is located in the Bonatzbau, in the old part of the library.

In the past, the room was actually used as a reading room, but today it is made available for individual work. It is equipped with spacious tables and chairs, and there are sockets in the floor for laptop use. Group work and discussions are prohibited in the Historic Reading Room to allow for a concentrated learning atmosphere.

The Historic Reading Room also hosts events and exhibition openings on a regular basis.

In the Historic Reading Room there is a mural by the artist Karl Schmoll von Eisenwerth (1879-1948). It depicts the sacrifice of the dead that Odysseus offers at the entrance to the underworld in the 11th canto of the Odyssey to ask the spirits of the deep about his fate.
