Project launch: AI and Self-regulation in Education

The new research project at the Hector Research Institute is funded by Vodafone Stiftung.

All students receive personalised tasks and support tailored to their individual learning needs—a vision that is becoming increasingly realistic with the rapid development of AI. While AI technologies offer great potential for personalized learning, they also pose risks, such as the distraction of students or a loss of their responsibility and self-regulation in learning.

The new project of the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research “Artificial Intelligence and Self-Regulation in Schools” is dedicated to these opportunities and risks when using AI in schools and researches how exactly such modern AI learning tools relate to the self-regulation of children and young people. The aim is to develop practical recommendations for teachers, educational practice and educational policy. The approach of the project team is to conduct a study based on the Delphi method with international experts from science, educational practice, technology development and politics. The research project is funded by Vodafone Stiftung.
