The successful collaboration between the Hector Institute of Educational Sciences and Psychology at the University of Tübingen and the Academy for Innovative Education and Management (aim) in Heilbronn will continue on a permanent basis. The cooperation agreements regarding the part-time Master’s program School Management and Leadership and the Online-Magazin schulmanagement have been extended indefinitely.

The partners combine their academic and practice-oriented expertise to support leaders in the education sector. Both the Master’s program and the Online-Magazin schulmanagement  offer school leaders, teachers, and other educational professionals high-quality professional development opportunities, evidence-based content, and a strong practical focus.

Education Needs Leadership

Leadership is a key factor in ensuring that schools are places where teaching and learning happen successfully and with joy. While educational leadership is now well-researched, it typically plays only a minor role in traditional teacher education. As a result, aspiring school leaders often have a strong interest in and need for scientific insights into what makes schools effective and education successful.

The goal of the continuing education Master’s program School Management and Leadership is to provide current and future educational leaders with systematic, research-driven training. The part-time program combines proven theories, the latest findings in educational research, and practice-relevant insights to equip participants with innovative and effective solutions to the everyday challenges of school leadership. The program’s success is reflected in its popularity: now in its fourth cohort, two groups have already completed the program successfully.

Strong Partnerships for Relevant Education

A distinguishing feature of the program is its close cooperation with partners from academia, educational administration, and school practice. In addition to the Hector Institute and aim, the Center for School Quality and Teacher Education Baden-Württemberg (ZSL) and the Institute for Educational Analysis Baden-Württemberg (IBBW) are closely involved. This collaboration ensures that the program remains practical, research-based, and tailored to the real-world needs of school leadership development.

Up-to-Date Knowledge for Everyday School Life

Through the Online-Magazin schulmanagement, the cooperation partners also offer a free platform for everyone interested in contemporary school development and leadership. The magazine presents current research findings, innovative approaches, and practical insights in an accessible format—especially for school leaders, teachers, and those interested in education. In doing so, it contributes to professional development and quality enhancement in education.

“The indefinite extension of our cooperation highlights our shared commitment to sustainably advancing quality and innovation in school leadership,” says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Trautwein, Director of the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology. Marco Haaf, Managing Director of aim, adds: “This collaboration sends a strong signal about the importance of modern leadership education in the education sector.”
