The term “nano” comes from the Greek word for dwarf (“nannos”) and stands for a millionth part of something. “Nano-Science” is, therefore, a combination of the disciplines that are concerned with materials and effects at the nanometer scale (nm). The areas of application for nano-science are wide-ranging, from materials science and production technology through surface physics to applications in the entire life science sector. Thus, "Nano-Science" encompasses a variety of sub-disciplines in biology, chemistry and physics
