Geboren 1947 in Auchsesheim-Donauwörth; studierte Schulmusik an der Musikhochschule sowie Musikwissenschaft an der Universität München bei Thrasybulos Georgiades und Rudolf Bockholdt; Dr. phil. 1981; ab 1980 wissenschaftlicher Assistent an der Katholischen Universität Eichstätt; 1986 Habilitation; seit 1988 Hochschuldozent, seit 1996 Professor am Musikwissenschaftlichen Institut der Universität Tübingen. Herr Professor August Gerstmeier befindet sich seit Ende 2011 im Ruhestand.
