Metal-based Reagents in Organic Synthesis toward a more Sustainable Chemistry

Multi-component organometallic reagents used in organic transformations are routinely generated in situ. We are interested in gaining information about the interaction of the single components involved and whether a discrete species is formed for the substrate conversion envisaged. Ideally, such species can be isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallography while their solution behavior is studied by multinuclear NMR-spectroscopy. Looking somewhat further ahead, a better understanding of such organometallic reagents will help to optimize their performance and as such contribute to greener, more efficient syntheses.
