At the Geosymposium & Quenstedt Annual Celebration 2026 held at the University of Tübingen, two researchers from the Soil Science and Geomorphology Department received recognition in the doctoral thesis and doctoral poster award categories.

Tom Brög received the award for the Best Doctoral Thesis completed within the Faculty of Geosciences since Summer 2025 for his dissertation, "Remote Sensing-Based Monitoring of Cropland Soil Organic Carbon." His research demonstrates how multispectral soil reflectance composites derived from Sentinel-2 and Landsat time series can be used for cost-effective, large-scale mapping and long-term monitoring of soil organic carbon (SOC) in agricultural soils. The study also represents the first validation of satellite-predicted SOC trends using repeated measurements from long-term soil monitoring sites.

Pegah Khosravani was recognized in the Doctoral Poster Awards for her poster, "Microaggregate-scale heterogeneity as an indicator of initial soil formation in Antarctic cold desert soils."

These recognitions reflect the high quality of research carried out within the Soil Science and Geomorphology Department and the department's continued contribution to research in soil science and geomorphology.

Congratulations to Tom Brög and Pegah Khosravani on their achievements.
