Cold-atom superconductor hybrid quantum devices

We are also involved in larger collaborative projects within the physics institute, in particular in the superconductor-cold atom hybrid projects of R.Kleiner/D.Koelle and J. Fortagh. The goal of these projects is to combine ultracold atomic ensembles, either in the groundstate or in Rydberg states, with superconducting microwave resonators. Such a marriage of two quantum systems is envisioned for the realization of for instance atomic quantum memories and of microwave-to-optical quantum transducers, providing long-sought-after functionalities to nowadays quantum technology. Our particular task is to develop suitable microwave circuits, that are compatible with the extreme experimental boundary conditions of ultracold atom and single ion detection experiments and allow for maximized coupling rates to the atomic transitions.
