God Beyond Theology –Islamic Studies within the Secular Academy

20 January 2020, 18:00 c.t.

A conversation with Prof. Amira Mittermaier (Dept for the Study of Religion, University of Toronto) and Prof. LejlaDemiri (Center for Islamic Theology, University of Tübingen) hosted by Pamela Klassen and Monique Scheer

Since 2011, Tübingen is home to the Center for Islamic Theology in addition to its more longstanding department of Islamic Studies. Likewise, in Toronto, students of Islam can choose between the umbrella of religious studies and a program in Muslim Studies in the Toronto School of Theology. Reflecting on the lines between religious studies, anthropology, and theology, this installment of the ‘Schloss Conversations’ revolves around the possibilities and pitfalls of scholarlyengagementwith God, religion, and culture within a secular academy.

Venue: Schloss Hohentübingen (Fürstenzimmer)
