Prizes and Awards

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Tübingen thrives on the diversity and quality of its research, teaching and social engagement. Research Prizes

  • 2024 Michael Pelzer  (General Rhetoric/Knowledge Design at the Research Centre for Science Communication) is one of three winners of the Dr. K. H. Eberle Stiftung for his interdisciplinary project on the representation and communication of uncertainties in science.
  • 2022 Prof. Dr. Mischa Meier (Ancient History) received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for his research work on late antiquity.

Awards

  • 2025 Prof. Dr. Sigrid Köhler (Institute of German Language and Literature) has been appointed to the DAAD's International Advisory Board for German Studies for a term of four years.
  • 2025 Prof. Dr. You Jae Lee (Korean Studies) has received a certificate of honour from the Minister of Education of the Republic of Korea for his services to Korean studies and student and academic exchange between Germany and Korea.
  • 2025 Prof. Dr. Thomas Sattig (Philosophy) was elected a full member of the Academia Europaea.
  • 2024 Professor Bernhard Pörksen (Media Studies) was awarded the Erich Fromm Prize.

Science Communication

  • 2025 Dr. Michael Kienzle (Medieval Archaeology) has received the Tübingen Young Scientist Award for Science Communication for his wide-ranging dialogue with the public about his research on castles and medieval aristocracy.
  • 2024 Prof. Dr. Klaus Gestwa (Eastern European History) received the Tübingen Prize for Science Communication for his intensive efforts to shed light on the background to Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
  • 2024 Claudia Lemmes (Historical Regional Studies) received the Tübingen Young Talent Award for Science Communication for her communication work on the DFG project ‘Effects of Medieval to Early Modern Urban Development on Waterways, Using the Example of Bad Waldsee.’

Awards for Emerging Scholars

  • 2025 Dr. Maike Hausen (History) received the Manfred Lautenschläger Prize from the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences.
  • 2024 Prof. Dr. Christina Murer (Classical Archaeology) has been awarded the Marie Heim-Vögtlin Prize by the Swiss National Science Foundation for her research on grave robberies.
  • 2024 Miriam Schiele (English Linguistics) won the Matariki Audience Award in the 3 Minute Thesis Competition.
  • 2024 Dr. Saskia Quené (Art History) received the Jan van Gelder Prize from the Association of Dutch Art Historians (VNK) in Amsterdam.
  • 2023 Dr. Johanna Jebe (Medieval History) received the Walter Witzenmann Prize from the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences.

Book Prizes

  • 2024 Dr. Sebastian Hanstein (FINT) has been awarded the Samir Shamma Prize for Islamic Numismatics.
  • 2024 Dr. Saskia Quené (Art History) received the Hans Janssen Prize for outstanding research in the field of European art history from the Lower Saxony Academy of Sciences in Göttingen.
  • 2023 Prof. Dr. Ewald Frie (Recent History) has been awarded the German Non-Fiction Book Prize.
