With the foundation of the Excellence Initiative, the integration of Industry-on-Campus projects into existing university structures began in 2012. Within this framework, new cooperation projects with industry will be created at the interface between basic research and application orientation.
This represents an excellent opportunity for the University of Tübingen to break new ground in establishing industrial partnerships and opens up promising prospects for application-inspired research. The Industry-on-Campus projects differ from comparable models in that a company does not have to establish an entire research institution at the university. Rather, the aim is to integrate motivated scientists from industry into the university's research activities. While the companies thus provide their employees from research and development with flexibility and time, the main contribution of the university is to support such projects at the interface of basic and application-oriented research with the necessary infrastructure.
