In this proseminar some basic topics in bioinformatics will be addressed. Each participant will be given one-three papers to read and to present to the class. In addition, a write-up of the presentation is excepted. All participants are required to attend all talks and to actively participate in discussions.

Important Dates:

• After determining the literature and sources that you will use, please contact your tutor to discuss them with him or her (at the latest three weeks before your presentation)
• One week before the presentation hand in a pre-final version of the required 10-15 page report (a summary of the topic in style of a scientific publication).
• The report should describe and discuss the topic logically, didactically, and structured.
• On the day of the presentation hand in the final version of the report so that it can be distributed to the other participants.
• One week before the presentation, hand in a penultimate version of your slides.
• The presentation should take 20 minutes + 5 minutes of discussion

Remarks

• Topics are handed out in class.
• Students are first required to determine literature and other sources that are suitable to address their topic. The result of the literature search should be discussed with the tutor before students starts working on their report and presentation.
• The first page of the report and the first slide should contain the title of the seminar and the presentation, the student's name and email address and the tutor's name and the date.
• If figures, formulations or whole sentences are taken verbally from the references it has to be marked as a citation; this is also the case if the reference is a WWW document, there the exact url and the author of the text have to be cited.
• Presentation and report in English.

Assessment

• The quality of the presentation and the report will be assessed on content and presentation and a total grade will be given by the tutors.
