Description:  

This doctorial dissertation explores democracy promotion from a soft approach facilitated by German Institutions and Foundations working in South Korea before democratization and throughout. Therefore, it offers a new perspective on German–Korean relations by placing democracy promotion, intermediary actors, and soft power at the center of bilateral relations.

“Muslim Migrants in Contemporary South Korea”

Beschreibung:

This study examines the lives of Muslim immigrants in Korea, focusing on blue-collar Muslim migrant workers and their adaptation within a non-Muslim society. It explores their demographics, social and legal status, living conditions, and interactions with Korean culture, highlighting the challenges they face and the ways they maintain their cultural and religious identities. Through this focus, the study aims to reveal the social dynamics and integration of a growing Muslim community in Korea.

Beschreibung: 

This doctoral project examines Korean community in and around Frankfurt am Main while approaching it as a new and unique overseas Koreatown. It specifically focuses on newcomers who (im)migrated to Germany after the 1990s and their lived experiences in relation to various infrastructures in the area.

„Die Geschichte der südkoreanischen Theologiestudenten in Westdeutschland zwischen den 1950-90er Jahren“(Arbeitstitel)

Beschreibung:

In der Arbeit wird die Geschichte der südkoreanischen Theologiestudenten in Westdeutschland eruiert. Die ausländischen Studierenden übernehmen in der Neuzeit die Funktion von "Vermittlern" westlicher Wissensinhalte. Das Ziel dieses Projektes besteht darin, die Rolle der südkoreanischen Theologiestudenten als kritische Wissensvermittler und nicht als untergeordnete Wissensvermittler zu untersuchen. Dafür erfolgt eine Betrachtung der ersten Einführung der deutschen Theologie in Korea, der Motivationen und Hintergründe der südkoreanischen Theologiestudenten, ihres Studiums und Alltags in Westdeutschland sowie der gegenwärtigen Situation von südkoreanischen Theologiestudenten mit deutschem Hintergrund.

"US Technical Aid Policy for Korea and its role in Korean development"

Beschreibung: 

Three priority industrial factories built with technical support from the United States, the Mungyeong Cement Factory, the Incheon Plate Glass Factory, and the Chungju Fertilizer Factory, played a significant role in Korea's development policy in the late 20th century by producing basic industrial products for rapid industrialization.
