This article offers a few reflections on the central questions posed by Regina’s recent article on AI and ethics (Quinn, 2021): When we talk about or debate ‘ethics’ what exactly is it that we are discussing and debating? What is the function of ethical interventions in relation to emerging science and technology? How should we understand the role of ethics in the landscape of the governance of AI? All of these questions are fundamental as they ultimately lead to a reflection on what kind of society we want to be.
