Luck or Genius? Understanding Data and Making Predictions

Course Objective

This course promotes statistical thinking, trains children in handling data, and helps them develop an appropriate understanding of chance, while avoiding premature conclusions. 

Course Content

In the course“Luck or Genius? Understanding Data and Making Predictions,”children acquire fundamental statistical skills and playfully discover their interest in statistical questions. They learn to interpret random phenomena, describe data in charts, and form arguments based on that data. 

They follow the complete process of statistical thinking — from formulating a question, through data collection, to data analysisthereby developing a reflective understanding of how to work with data. 

Target Group

The course ‘Luck or Genius? Understanding Data and Making Predictions’ is aimed at particularly gifted and highly talented third- and fourth-grade students in the Hector Children’s Academy Program.

What makes this course particularly special?

Especially today, it is more important than ever to question statistics critically and to recognize manipulative representations. That’s why this course was particularly important to me: I want to strengthen children’s ability to examine data thoughtfully and to avoid common reasoning errors at an early stage.
