Tübingen Postdoctoral Academy for Research on Education
We train the next generation of leaders in education.
The Tübingen Postdoctoral Academy for Research on Education (PACE) supports postdoctoral scholars in the early phase after their doctorate. Our goal is to prepare scholars for independent, interdisciplinary research in the field of Education Sciences and for a possible career as a professor.
Selected are outstanding early-career researchers who are either conducting research at the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research or are associated with the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network, and who have completed their doctoral degree within the past 24 months.
Part of the PACE mentoring and coaching program are regular workshops held twice a year. These workshops provide an opportunity to connect with postdocs from diverse disciplines, expand one’s professional network, and engage with experts in the field of educational research. In addition to courses offered by the Graduate Academy, the program includes two PACE workshops.
The Contact Workshop (in November)
The Contact Workshop focuses on topics such as career opportunities outside academia or in science-related fields. External experts give several guest lectures.
The Career Workshop (in March)
The Career Workshop focuses on the following topics: academic career development, profile building, the development of research agendas, as well as successful applications for positions and funding. PACE uses this retreat to offer interactive workshops that provide tailored support.
Our program is intentionally designed to be international, both in terms of the PACE members and the experts we invite to our workshops. PACE firmly believes that intercultural exchange broadens both personal and academic horizons, thereby enhancing the quality of one’s research.
The PACE mentoring program is primarily about giving postdocs the opportunity to engage in proactive, one-on-one exchanges with more experienced mentors. The program is tailored to the individual needs of each postdoc and focuses not only on academic research but also on personal development and qualifications. The goal is to support participants either in obtaining a professorship or in securing another promising position in research. In addition, we help postdocs develop their strengths and grow beyond their current potential.
Integration into LEAD: Postdoctoral researchers are systematically integrated into the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network, which includes co-supervising a LEAD doctoral candidate.
Eligible candidates are outstanding researchers who are either conducting research at the Hector Institute for Empirical Educational Research or are associated with the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network and have completed their doctorate within the past 24 months.
Admission to PACE is based on the submission of a scientific work plan, which serves as the foundation for all career development measures, and is granted for an initial period of three years. Postdoctoral researchers are guaranteed that at least 50 percent of their working time can be devoted to their academic advancement. To enable this, PACE supplements partial institute or project positions with personnel funds to create full-time positions. Following a successful interim evaluation after two years, which particularly assesses qualification for academic positions, the position may be extended for an additional three years.
