IfS students organise German University Championship in table tennis
From May 19 to 21, 2023, the University of Tübingen hosted this year's German University Championship (DHM) in table tennis. Nineteen students from the Bachelor's degree programme in Sports Science with the profiles Sports Management, Health Promotion, and Media and Communication organised the event in a project seminar.
For almost 20 years, project seminars on event management have been held at the Institute of Sports Science in cooperation with the Tübingen University Sports Department (Director: Ingrid Arzberger). The German University Championships of the German University Sports Federation (adh) are a perfect practical example for this, as the concept “by students for students” can be implemented particularly well in various sports.
While part 1 of this year's project seminar (winter semester 2022/2023) “Conception, organisation and evaluation of sports” (under the leadership of Dr. Verena Burk) dealt primarily with the basics of event management, briefing, strategy development and content, time and resource planning, part 2 (summer semester 2023) dealt in greater depth with the implementation and follow-up of a sport event. The theoretical principles were then implemented in seven departments (competition organisation & medical care, finance & sponsoring, public relations, logistics, protocol, social program and accreditation) by the seminar participants directly during the implementation and evaluation of the DHM Table Tennis 2023 with great personal responsibility and commitment.
