Priority Programmes

A special feature of a priority programme is the supraregional cooperation between participating scientists. Priority programmes can be established by the DFG Senate if coordinated funding promises scientific gains in the relevant field.

LaSTing - Robust Assessment & Safe Applicability of Language Modelling

Foundations for a New Field of Language Science & Technology

The LaSTing priority programme brings together interdisciplinary research at the interface between cognitive linguistics and modern language technology, in particular language models. The aim is to achieve a deeper understanding, thorough testing and reliable application of these technologies. The programme is aimed at researchers from linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, computational linguistics, AI, philosophy, computer science and other fields who contribute theoretically or empirically to the core issues: robust evaluation, reliable usability and fundamental methodological problems. The development of common standards for a robust methodology – generalisable, transferable, reproducible and future-proof – is of particular importance in view of rapid technological change. The programme supports projects that use modern language models both as a subject of investigation and as a tool for innovative research.

On the Way to The Fluvial Anthroposphere

The Lower Havel River and Greater Donaumoos Regions

The ‘fluvial anthroposphere’ refers to the interaction between human societies and river systems. As part of the priority programme ‘On the Way to The Fluvial Anthroposphere’, scientists are researching the pre-industrial floodplains of Central Europe and their development through the interactions of human societies and natural processes, with the aim of understanding the role of humans as decisive shapers in the emergence of a fluvial anthroposphere.
