A special issue has been released featuring six updated white papers on the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission (eXTP), which is scheduled for launch in 2030. The mission paper provides an overview of eXTP’s history, scientific objectives, instruments, and operations, while five accompanying science papers outline its core research goals. These include probing the equation of state of neutron stars, exploring black holes through strong gravity studies, investigating quantum electrodynamics effects in extreme magnetic fields, advancing time-domain and multi-messenger astronomy, and serving as a powerful observatory for a wide range of astrophysical sources. With the mission now fully approved and in implementation, the eXTP team plans further updates before launch, including details on science management, data policy, and guest investigation opportunities, to prepare the community for its ambitious program.

Prof. Andrea Santangelo of the IAAT in his capacity of European science coordinator of the mission was significantly involved in all papers and in the general coordination of the development of the science case of eXTP.
