Professorships

The individual subject areas within the department of Medieval German Studies are represented by the following professors:

Professor Dr. Annette Gerok-Reiter: Medieval German Literature in its European Context

Prof. Dr. Gerok-Reiter studies comprise the research and teaching of medieval German literature, with particular focus on the 12th and 13th centuries (Middle High German). Of crucial importance are the interdisciplinary areas of Poetry and Aesthetics, Historical Anthropology and the problematisation of salient intercultural issues.

Professor Dr. Anna Mühlherr (Adjunct Professor)

Prof. Dr. Mühlherr's teaching and research in Medieval German Studies concentrates primarily on heroic epics, religious poetry, early modern German prose novels, Thing Theory and theme oriented literature didactics.

Professor Dr. Klaus Ridder: Culture and Language of the German Middle Ages

Prof. Dr. Ridder's teaching and research in German Medieval Studies concerns the periods from the 9th to the 11th century (Old High German) and the 14th to the 16th century (Early Modern German). He focuses particularly on historical language and translation analysis, edition methodology and edition pragmatics taking also into account questions of Cultural Studies and text analysis.
