Over six semesters, the B.A. course "Media Studies" prepares students for a wide range of media-based professions (PR, advertising, journalism) in traditional and digital media or for an M.A. course. Consisting of a core course and elective course, it combines well-founded training in media studies with practical courses.
The B.A. main subject "Media Studies" consists of the core course (60 ECTS) and the elective (39 ECTS).
The basics of media studies and practice are taught in the core course. The focus is on the theories and methods of media studies. Students are also given initial insights into media-specific research and production.
The emphasis of the elective course is on content. From the second year of the course, students can choose between two electives.
In Profile I, "The conception of digital media", students concentrate on techniques and developments in digital media. The course offers in this profile focus strongly on media information technology.
In Profile II, "Practical areas in media communication", students focus on current trends and lines of development in journalism, advertising, PR and entertainment. Print and online media are equally important as radio, film and TV.
Students can start their B.A. major course in "Media Studies" at the beginning of the winter semester. The standard period of study, including preparation of the Bachelor's thesis and all examinations, is six semesters. One minor course will also be studied. Three months' work experience will be undertaken during the vacation.
