DAAD Go East Summer School

in Petrozavodsk, Karelia, Russia "European Union and Russia: cross-border cooperation"

Petrozavodsk State University (Russia) is happy to announce the call for applications for the 2016 DAAD Summer School “European Union and Russia: cross-border cooperation”!

The program includes an academic program, a Russian language program and a cultural program.

The academic part is divided into three sections. During the first section the students will learn about EU integration, history of the European Union and its institutional structure, relations between the EU and other main actors of the international scene, as well as visit the Barents EU Center.

The second part includes modern Russian history, Karelian history, Russian foreign policy, cooperation between Russian northern regions and Northern Europe, history and current situation concerning the EU-Russia relations.

The third part focuses on cross-border cooperation and different theories, institutions and programs in this field. Students will study Karelia as an example of successful cross-border cooperation and get to know other examples of Russian regions that fruitfully develop relations with European border regions.

The Russian language program consist of 28 academic hours of Russian taught in two groups – one for beginner to elementary students and another for intermediate to advanced.

Cultural program includes visits to various museums, historic places in Petrozavodsk and Karelia, as well as opening and closing banquet.

The concept of the school presupposes that students get new scientific, language and professional knowledge, as well as get acquainted with new people, their culture and way of life.

10 students from Germany can apply for DAAD funding, which will cover the course fee (620 EUR), transportation and accommodation expenses. After completing the program the students will get certificates of participation with 3 ECTS.
