Completion of CRC 1070 “ResourceCultures” – Resources as Cultural Constructs

The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1070 “ResourceCultures” at the University of Tübingen has successfully concluded after twelve years of interdisciplinary research funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The project explored how resources are not simply material entities, but culturally defined and embedded in social dynamics across time and space.

Led by Prof. Dr. Martin Bartelheim (Prehistoric Archaeology) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Scholten (Soil Science and Geomorphology), the CRC brought together researchers from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to redefine the concept of “resources” and link it to sustainability and cultural values.

A final interdisciplinary publication summarizes the CRC’s key findings:

Bartelheim et al. (Eds.): ResourceCultures – How Resources Affect Societies. Reichert Verlag, 2025. ISBN 9783752008685
