Stellar Laboratories: High-precision Atomic Physics with STIS

The PhD thesis project focuses on quantitative spectral analyses of high-resolution ultraviolet
stellar spectra obtained with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph. Non-local thermodynamic
equilibrium model-atmosphere techniques will be employed to compare measured
and calculated line strengths of the elements from calcium to nickel.
