Dominic Afscharian obtained his Bachelor’s degree in economics and his Master’s degree in political science at Heidelberg University. Specializing in public policy research, he primarily focused on social policy and its relations to other policy fields such as migration and sustainability. He wrote his master’s thesis on the topic “Measuring Welfare State Performance – Towards a Conceptual Framework of Appropriate Criteria” and prefers mixed-methods approaches in his research.

After working as a project manager for labour market economics and social policy at the Bertelsmann Stiftung, he joined professor Seeleib-Kaiser’s chair in October of 2019. On the project “FuS – Freedom of Movement and Social Policy in Historical and International Comparison”, he focuses on the contemporary European Union, both examining phenomena in Germany and on the European level.
