Professor Gernot Müller Presents Research in Hong Kong

Professor Gernot Müller from the School of Business and Economics recently traveled to Hong Kong to present his research at prestigious academic institutions and conferences. On January 14-15, 2025, he participated in the HKIMR-ECB-BOFIT Joint Conference on “Europe, Asia, and the Changing Global Economy,” held at the Hong Kong Academy of Finance. The conference attracted leading economists and policymakers, and Professor Müller presented his latest paper titled “Dollar Trinity.”

His research explores the strong correlation between the global financial, trade, and business cycles with the US dollar exchange rate. The study provides evidence that the dollar plays a causal role in shaping the international transmission of US monetary policy and global risk, emphasizing its role in denominating safe assets, cross-border financial contracts, and trade invoicing.

In addition to the conference, Professor Müller delivered lectures at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on January 16 and at the City University of Hong Kong on January 17, sharing his insights with faculty and students.
