Kurt Schneider is a media practitioner through and through. He focuses on the production and editing of TV and video formats. Having also trained in radio and writing for journalism, his aim is to introduce students to the requirements and production methods of the media market. He cooperates closely with public radio, and specifically with the regional broadcaster SWR.

Kurt Schneider studied history, Slavic studies and political science at the University of Tübingen. Whilst still a student, he gained extensive experience in media design and film production working in the then Media Department of the Faculty of Modern Languages and as a freelance director and author. He graduated from the Institute for Eastern European Studies in 1988, and was then involved in the successful setting up of the DFG-funded collaborative research center 437, “War Experiences. War and Society in the Modern Era”.

However, a traineeship took him to the Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden, where he worked first as an editor for contemporary history and multimedia educational TV. At the end of 2002 he moved to the “cultural documentations” editorial office, where he was responsible for programs and documentaries shown on networks such as SWR TV, ARTE, 3sat and ARD. Three of the films produced under Kurt Schneider’s editorship received the Adolf Grimme Award.

In addition to his activities for SWR, he has been a trainer for the Festival TV of the French Film Festival at the University of Tübingen since 2003. He has also been lecturing at the Faculty of Philosophy and History since 2008, and a senior lecturer at the Institute of Media Studies and Executive Director of the Center for Media Competence at the University of Tübingen since 2011.
