Diversity promotes a variety of perspectives, which in turn contributes to creative and innovative solutions. For this reason, the University of Tübingen developed a Diversity Strategy and took measures to establish and further develop an inclusive, international, and gender-equitable university culture.
As part of its excellence strategy, the University of Tübingen implements targeted equality measures. These include equality professorships, dual career opportunities, the Athene funding program for young female scientists, support with childcare costs, and new appointment procedures. These include binding regulations for job advertisements and selection processes that promote the systematic and transparent recruitment of women and raise awareness of equality issues.
The aim is to significantly increase the proportion of female professors. Seven female W3 professors, mainly in the life and natural sciences, were already appointed as part of the Excellence Initiative (2012–2019). When filling junior research group leader positions, particular attention was also paid to ensuring a high level of participation by female scientists. This creates more female role models who motivate female students and young scientists to pursue a career in science.
