As a research university, the University of Tübingen has set itself the goal of promoting outstanding, cooperative, and interdisciplinary research with regional, national, and international appeal in all areas. The Excellence Strategy is an important driver for this project.
There are currently three Clusters of Excellence at the University of Tübingen, with three new Clusters to be added in 2026.
Four research platforms have been established to promote interdisciplinary networking among scientists within the University of Tübingen and with non-university research institutions. Five additional core facilities enable the efficient use of state-of-the-art research infrastructure.
As part of the Excellence Strategy, the University of Tübingen invests primarily in outstanding scientific talent and strengthens strategically relevant fields of research by (co-)financing (junior) professorships and research groups for early-career researchers.
Industry on Campus (IoC) collaborations link science and teaching with industry and basic research with application-oriented research.
In line with the recommendations of the German Rectors' Conference, the Research Data Alliance, and the e-science strategy of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the University of Tübingen supports the responsible and sustainable handling of research data.
