Postdoctoral position in the field of “Human population genomics and genetic history of Eurasia”
(m/w/d, E13 TV-L, 100%)
The position will start as early as January 1st 2027 for an initial period of two years and will be primarily supervised by Prof. Cosimo Posth and Prof. Maria A. Spyrou. Salary will follow the German public service scale TV-L E13, 100%.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in archaeological sciences, archaeogenetics, population genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field. Previous experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data will be considered an advantage. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in computational biology and a genuine interest in human history. In addition, the successful applicant should have excellent communication skills to thrive in a highly collaborative and international research environment, as well as an excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of German is appreciated but is not required.
The successful applicant will work on an interdisciplinary project focusing on high-resolution genomic analyses of ancient human remains recovered from diverse archaeological sites across Eurasia, spanning the entire Holocene. The candidate will investigate both local community structure and regional population history, with the aim of deepening our understanding of the genetic history of past societies and the formation of the region’s present-day gene pool.
