James R. Markusen is a professor of economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is among the leading scholars world-wide in the field of international trade. Over the last 25 years his work has concentrated on the location, production, and welfare effects of large-scale firms and multinational corporations. His work is published in top scholarly journals, and many years of work researching multinational firms culminated in his book entitled “Multinational Firms and the Theory of International Trade”, published in 2002 by MIT-Press, that is a classic in the field now. He has also worked on export-platform foreign direct investment, fragmentation and selection and learning effects in multinational firms. His most recent work explores how demand shifts due to rising incomes help explain empirical and policy puzzles.
