We are excited to welcome Dr. Luigi Maria Briglia, who joined the Department of Economics and Business at the University of Tübingen as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in October 2024, as part of our Macroeconomics group. Dr. Briglia’s research focuses on the effects of both aggregate and idiosyncratic risks on household wealth dynamics, consumption-saving behaviors, and economic inequality. His work includes an empirical analysis of households with zero wealth—examining who these households are, why they reach this status, and the policy implications. Notably, Dr. Briglia’s research highlights that expenditure shocks, such as unexpected car repairs, are significant predictors of households moving to zero wealth, as shown in U.S. microdata.
In addition to his research, Dr. Briglia is coordinating the Macroeconomics Brown Bag, a seminar series where faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students present and discuss their latest research. Master’s students are warmly encouraged to attend these sessions and engage with ongoing research within our department.
