The Tübingen Department of Korean Studies' research focuses on the Korean history. It is centered around the following topics:
As for the methodology, approaches from cultural sciences, Every-day- and global historic research are applied to korea-centered topics. Especially the Colonial History and the Cold-War Era provide interesting characterics for a global historical perspective and point to the multilayerd dimensions of Modernity. Current topics and research areas also include the momentous division of the Korean peninsula, which is of great significance for the East-Asian security politics.
Furthermore, the Korean studies department in Tübingen put a special emphasis on Korea specific processes, like the rapid economic growth, South Korean democratization, as well as the North Korean regime.
